Annual Appeal

September Update:

We have made our goal!

Deep appreciation to everyone who contributed!

June 20, 2014

Dear Friends of Stone Creek,

This has been a year of exciting change and growth for Stone Creek. After a fruitful search process, we have two new teachers, Dojin and Korin, working alongside Jisho, who remains our abiding teacher. With our expanded practice leadership, we have new programs and classes, and are reaching out further into the wider community and to families. Our relationship with our landlord and neighbor, Graton Day Labor Center, is blossoming and we will be joining together for local celebrations.

We are thriving as a sangha of Zen practice, ethical study and action, and community building. All our programs are open to anyone who wants to participate. Zazen meditation is held five days a week, with periodic open zazen instruction. We offer intensive retreats, ceremonies, and personal guidance. For many, the highlight is the Sunday Dharma talk. These weekly talks are enthusiastically attended and are then available on line to listen to at any time from any location.

To support these offerings, our teachers, and our beautiful site requires operating funds. Stone Creek is financially supported by you and by the community through Zen Fest, membership contributions, program fees, and our Annual Appeal. We take great care to keep our budget modest, honoring the gifts we receive. This year, we are beginning to explore a new possibility: to become owners rather than renters of our building, which would provide more stability. This possibility makes it especially important that we operate solidly “in the black” this year for our expenses.

This letter is a request for your support in the Annual Appeal for operating funds for Stone Creek. Giving and receiving turns the wheel of benefiting self and other. It is a deep expression and joyful act of our mutual connection and support. It reaffirms that we depend on each other’s generosity in so many ways. We ask you to consider the role that Stone Creek plays in your life and in the life of the wider community, and our focus on peace and well-being in the world, when you find the amount to give that is right for you.   Our goal is 100% participation from our members and friends.

In deep appreciation of your generosity,
Alice Jean Rylaarsdam, Treasurer
Jude Kreissman, President
