I’m glad for your interest in the Outdoor Sitting Group. We sit outdoors to explore ways of awakening (or reawakening) to our place in the community of all beings, and of strengthening our connection with the natural world.
My wife and I have four acres near Occidental. There are paths and gardens all over it. Parts of it are tended, parts of it wild. Constance and I make this land available for people to come and sit still, to listen and learn from the other forms of life, to come as emissaries seeking alliance and connection rather than control.
We keep the numbers small enough to not unduly alarm the foxes and quail, and to allow each person their own experience. There are usually about six to ten of us. There is a place for you.
We meet rain or shine, understanding that the elements are part of the reality we seek to encounter. Check the forecast, bring warm clothes, umbrellas as needed. There are a few chairs and benches around the landscape, and cushions you may borrow.
We gather at 3:00 pm sharp each Thursday, and bow in together. We go out and find a “sit-spot” and sit still there for 45 minutes in an attitude of open, alert listening. Then we re-gather for a mini council go-around, readings, presentation, or discussion ending by 4:30 pm.
It is a drop-in group. Come when you can. There is no fee, but donations are always welcome.
I send an email each Wednesday to a list of people who have expressed an interest. If you contact me, I will put your name on that list. You can opt out any time.
